Editorials > Berg Confirmed to Direct Dune

There were some talks a few months ago during the strike, but Peter Berg has been officially confirmed as the director of the next feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel Dune. Kevin Misher of Misher Films has acquired the rights from Herbert's estate and plans to produce, as he did for Berg's second directorial effort The Rundown.

There are no writers currently attached to the project. The producers are approaching it from the angle that the "theme of finite ecological resources [is] particularly timely."

Richard Rubenstein is also producing. He produced the Sci-Fi Channel's Dune miniseries as well as its sequel Children of Dune.

Back in December, Berg said that the scope of the film would be "big, big, big" and diplomatically put down David Lynch's infamously mediocre 1984 version, saying "that interpretation has left the door wide open for a remake."

Opinions? I've asked before, but how do people feel about Berg being behind the wheel of the adaptation of what is arguably one of the most important and well-known science fiction novels ever written?

As i stated before: The design of the David Lynch version with a bit more of the books story, some real good actors (like David Lynch had) and i am a happy man.
I also repeat my suggestion to ask one or two of the 1984 actors.
And please don't cast some boring kid as Paul Atreides (Christian Bale would be my first choice)
