Coming straight from StarTrek.com, the word is that Ben Cross will be playing Sarek, the Vulcan father of Spock, in JJ Abrams' Star Trek (aka Star Trek XI). Zachary Quinto has already been cast as the young adult Spock, while Winona Ryder will play his human mother Amanda Grayson.

Cross got his breakout role in 1981's Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire as Harold Abrahams. Since then, the British actor has mainly kept a low profile. So far there's no info on how major of a part Sarek and Amanda will play in Abrams' incarnation of the popular sci-fi series, but Spock is reportedly going to be the crux of the plot.

Sarek was originally played by frequent Trek actor Mark Lenard.
