News > Batman's Batpod Revealed!
Written by David Morgan
You can't help but get excited (or at least I can't) every time some new thing from The Dark Knight pops up online. The latest is a shadowy picture of Batman on the "Batpod," which is considerably more badass than it sounds.
The front and rear tires are both a monstrously huge 508 millimeters, and the engines are in the hubs of each wheel. Steering isn't by hand but by shoulder, since there aren't handlebars. Instead, there are shields that fit each arm like sleeves and have the ability to rotate around the bike's frame. The two foot pegs are set 3 1/2 feet apart on either side of the tank, which the rider lies on, belly down.
It's also equipped with machine guns, cannons (difference, uncertain), and grappling hooks.
In the film it is supposed to have been designed and built by Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) for Batman, though Nathan Crowley designed it for the actual production. He was also the brains behind the new Batmobile from Batman Begins. Just one more thing to look forward to during the next 13 months.
