Sometimes, the time is just right. That seems to be the prevailing logic in Hollywood now, as a third Pablo Escobar biopic enters preproduction. To bring you up to speed, there was already Joe Carnahan's Killing Pablo and Oliver Stone/Antoine Fuqua's Escobar, but now Alexander Witt is trying to get in on the action with his own film, also entitled Escobar. According to The New York Times, this Escobar is based on original research rather than books like the other two. The screenplay was written by Richard Rionda Del Castro and Greg Mellott. Though there are no stars attached yet, Mr. Del Castro told the Times that he wasn't worried about the better-known competition, "I believe we are much more advanced than either of those two projects." By advanced it's unclear whether he means "further along in production" or just "classier," but it sounds like it's going to be quite a race now.
