I had the privilege of attending a very early screening of American Gangster last night, and let me say I was not disappointed whatsoever. 70s gangsters brought to the modern screen is a definite upgrade over Ridley Scott’s last vintage piece, A Good Year. Denzel Washington strings along another very solid performance. Russell Crowe proves once again, he’s still a fucking bad ass. Even when he plays a cub scout New Jersey Narcotics officer. I guess the only negative to this movie would be the length, and I say that because it is over 2 hrs and 30 mins long. And since this isn’t an epic, that run time is a tad on the long side.
