News > Affleck, Bailey to Produce The Blade Itself

Written by David Morgan

Coming off the success of Gone Baby Gone, Ben Affleck, Sean Bailey, and Aaron Stockard have lined up another crime drama based on a novel. This time the source material is Marcus Sakey's debut novel The Blade Itself, which "revolves around two Chicago childhood friends who made their reputation committing petty crimes as kids before choosing different paths in life. When they are reunited years later, one is forced to decide how far he will go to protect the secrets of his past" (The Hollywood Reporter).

Stockard will write the screenplay as he did for Gone. Affleck will direct again, and Bailey will produce via Bailey's punny new company Ideaology. Miramax will distribute the film. Good for Affleck. He may have finally found his niche behind the camera rather than in front of it. No word on who will direct yet.

Affleck isn't directing - I believe Stockard is taking over this time and Affleck is on board as a producer.

Oh you're right. The original article doesn't say Affleck is the director, but do you happen to have another source on Stockard directing? The THR article only says he's "adapting the screenplay."
