News > A Fundraiser for Critic D.K. Holm

We thought we'd take a five minute break from the usual film news reporting and corresponding snide comments to get the word out there about a fundraiser for a fellow cinephile. D.K. Holm, the film critic for the Vancouver Voice in Vancouver, Washington and a regular columnist at Kevin Smith's Quick Stop Entertainment, has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. It's treatable but unfortunately, like a lot of Americans, D.K. doesn't have any health insurance, so the chemotherapy and operations will cost him thousands of dollars.

To help him out, some of his friends are putting together a benefit show at the Cinema 21 movie house in Portland, Oregon on April 27th. Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini will be there along with other entertainers. They'll be reading some of D.K.'s harshest reviews and the hate mail that followed, and there will be all wine and hors d'oeuvres served. The suggested donation at the door is $10. Also, if you're interested in helping out but won't be in the Portland area, check out this link.

Cinematical brought this story to our attention. We don't know D.K. personally, but it sounds like a fun event and a nice thing to do if you've got some extra money lying around. We wish him a speedy recovery.
