News > A First Look at Sean Penn as Harvey Milk

Entertainment Weekly has a photo from the set of Gus Van Sant's "Milk," a biopic about the life and death of San Franciscan gay rights activist Harvey Milk. The film's got a great cast that includes Sean Penn as Milk, Diego Luna (also pictured, standing behind Penn in the photo below), James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Victor Garber, Eric Stoltz, and Josh Brolin as Dan White, the former city supervisor who murdered Milk and the Mayor of San Francisco, George Moscone.

Producer Dan Jinks says of Penn, "[Sean] is playing a guy who's not at all like him, way beyond the sexuality of the character. Harvey was this guy who wants everybody to love him, and he loves everybody else. Sean just completely became that guy. It's a real transformation."

Well, I can see from the photo that Penn's right wrist is slightly limp to connote his homosexuality. What thorough research. Regardless, Penn is a genuinely talented actor and this sounds like quite a promising flick. Again, with all due respect to Penn, I do wish they had gone with a slightly wackier actor. I mean look at the guy:

What about that face and demeanor says "Sean Penn" to you?

Well, I guess they do have similar noses.
