Numerous chills make this one a crowd-pleaser, but – even with the standard solid performances from John Cusack and Sam Jackson – this movie can’t venture far north of average given the totally unnecessary convolution of its last act.

You know, I will say that as far as Stephen King movies go this one wasn't that bad.

I actually felt that the final act was one of the only things that saved it from mediocrity. Sometimes in the face of persistent supernatural forces, it makes more sense for the character to fail.

I won't argue that he should have failed, but that's also not the reason I gave for the failure of the last act.
