Presumably we already knew this, but director Gavin Hood has confirmed in an interview with MTV that the upcoming Wolverine movie starring Hugh Jackman will be primarily a prequel which will deal with Logan's experiences prior to joining the X-Men. A portion of the movie will even deal with the period of time before Wolverine was given his adamantium claws and skeleton. Hood was relatively tight-lipped as far as details go (he wouldn't confirm or deny Brian Cox returning as Stryker) but he assures us the plot will delve into Wolverine's often revisited and revised past.

Production will begin before the end of the year.
