News > Superbad opening weekend projections

Written by: Josh Karp

There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Seth Rogan's upcoming comedic masterpiece Superbad will be a sizeable box office hit. Just how much money it will rake in during the all-important opening weekend, however, is anyone's guess. That anyone, for the time being, is standard industry box office tracking projections…hmmm. Say that one fast. According to the men upstairs, Superbad is projected to pull in roughly $25 million during opening weekend. That's a healthy number for sure, but nothing astronomical. Apparently, at least according to Slash Film, the relatively low projections are due to low polling numbers for Males above 25, couple with the R rating that boxes out the under 18 audience that could make this film into a mega smash. Oh well….it will certainly continue to gain momentum from release date on out, and will crush during DVD season, so wipe that worry off yo face.

I'm predicting at least $35 million. Nothing else is opening this weekend that's worth seeing and the only other major comedies are the Simpsons and Chuck and Larry. This movie will more than make back the estimated $23 mil it cost to make. WAR Judd Apatow! WAR Seth Rogan!

I'd agree with fatal, it will probably be somewhere in the $40 million mark. Don't forget every arrested development fan out there (there are lots) is going to see it this weekend.

Yeh...and if you end up seeing it this weekend, why not head on over to filmwad.com and write a review!!

Well, I was close, but not spot on. 31.24 is a great take for the opening weekend, and if word of mouth spreads like it did for Knocked Up, Superbad could see a few weeks of sustained grosses. I don't expect it to drop too far in the next couple weeks at least.
