TrekMovie.com has confirmed that Paul McGillion (Scottish doctor Carson Beckett from Stargate: Atlantis) has auditioned for the role of Scotty in Star Trek 11, though no official decisions have been made. McGillion is Canadian, like former Scotty actor James Doohan, but was born in Scotland, and knows his way around the accent. In fact, he even looks a bit like younger, mustacheless Scotty.
As for Captain Kirk, IESB has heard rumors that the frontrunner to fill Shatner's shoes is 28-year old Mike Vogel. Vogel has appeared in such films as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake), Supercross, Poseidon, and will appear in Abrams's 1-18-08.
