News > Star Trek Has Its Chekov!

Written by: Noah Sanders

The Star Trek casting news is really starting to spill right now as J.J. Abrams is in New York casting for the film.  First, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy are named as the films Vulcans, and now Abrams has found his Chekov:

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the new Chekov is: Anton Yelchin.

The name might not be very recognizable but the Russian-born actor is actually making quite a name for himself, he's the titular role in Charlie Bartlett, was the little kid in Alpha Dog, and is also signed on for Finding t.A.t.U later this year.   That's a good sign, the buzz coming off of Bartlett is good, my only worry is this: he honestly looks like a fourteen year old.  I know Abrams wants to set the film in the youth of these characters, but this kid looks like he should be drinking milk from a straw on a playground.  What's next?  Dakota Fanning as Uhura?

Whatever, my level of knowledge on the Star Trek franchise is next to nothing, so as long as the movie is watchable, I'll be happy.

By the way, OrangeRazor, sorry about 'The Menagerie' error.  Will not happen again.

So he's actually from Russia? Psh. Who needs authenticity when you can get any old actor who can invert his Vs and Ws?

Thanks, Noah. I think Yelchin is a pretty good choice visually. I'm just wondering how big a role he'll play, as Chekov didn't show up on the Enterprise till later in the series.
