News > Sicko on Youtube
Written by David Morgan
Michael Moore's healthcare documentary Sicko has appeared on Youtube, with at least two different users posting the entire film in fourteen segments. Naturally the Weinstein Company and Michael Moore have two different opinions on the subject. "A Weinstein Co. source said the company has already hired several firms who specialize in dealing with piracy and are taking 'a very aggressive approach to protecting the film.'" That sounds vaguely like the Weinsteins have hired contract killers.
Michael Moore, on the other hand, when discussing Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004 said, "I don't agree with the copyright laws and I don't have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people as long as they're not trying to make a profit off my labour. I would oppose that… I do well enough already and I made this film because I want the world to change. The more people who see it the better, so I'm happy this is happening."
Granted, this quote is three years old, and perhaps the $119 million gross of Fahrenheit has turned Moore into a miserly old man since then, but I'd be willing to bet he's just excited that people are interested enough to illegally upload and download his documentary about healthcare. How often does that happen?
