Editorials > Horton Hears a Who! Tops the Box Office

Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino's animated Dr. Seuss adaptation Horton Hears a Who! enjoyed the biggest opening of the year this weekend with a surprising $45.1 million domestic gross. Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, and Seth Rogen lent their voices to the mostly well-reviewed picture which easily trounced the competition. Variety even went so far as to call the film's opening "who-licious." Fox's distribution VP Chris Aronson chimed in that it was "who-mungous." Even if both are annoying, at least Aronson's pun makes sense.

Never Back Down and Doomsday were the other two new releases in the top ten, and they found themselves in third and seventh place respectively.

1. Horton Hears a Who! - $45.1m
2. 10,000 B.C. - $16.4m
3. Never Back Down - $8.61m
4. College Road Trip - $7.89m
5. Vantage Point - $5.4m
6. The Bank Job - $4.91m
7. Doomsday - $4.74m
8. Semi-Pro - $2.98m
