And another cult novel finds itself poised to be a cult film. Writer/Director Don Coscarelli (the Phantasm series) has scored the rights to David Wong's novel John Dies At The End, Fangoria informs.
The story "follows two goofballs who get caught up in a freaky fight against mutated victims of a strange drug that allows them to drift across time and dimensions and the horrific invasion that may be taking place on Earth because of them".
Coscarelli praised David Wong's writing, likening it to "a mash-up of Douglas Adams and Stephen King, both smart and goofy, scary and funny".
I'm sold. Give me a movie with two slackers up against something that they can barely comprehend, let alone defeat and odds are good that I will find entertainment zen. Coscarelli's already proven he can work that formula with his Ossie Davis/Bruce Campbell starrer Bubba Ho-Tep.
For those interested, John Dies At The End can be read online in its entirety.
