News > Bourne is Best Among August Releases
Written by David Morgan
The Bourne Ultimatum has set the record for August releases, pulling in $70 million domestically over the weekend. As
Variety points out, that outperforms not only the other two Bourne movies, but every James Bond movie as well. So the rivalry continues. With the renewed interest in Bond as played by Daniel Craig, there may actually be a chance of Bond hitting back though $70 million seems like a bit more than any Bond film is likely to make.
The Simpsons dropped to second, and
Underdog mysteriously attracted enough of an audience to come in third with $12 million. The rest of the top ten was mostly returning blockbusters on their way out, but ninth and tenth place were reserved for
Hot Rod and
Bratz respectively.
Hot Rod made only about $5 million and
Bratz made about a million less.
