Editorials > Bee Movie Strikes Back

Roles were reversed this Veterans Day weekend as Bee Movie took first place away from American Gangster. The animated insect movie took in $26 million (12 million less than last week) while the Ridley Scott crime drama earned $24.3 million (down from $43 million).

The Vince Vaughn Christmas comedy Fred Claus was the highest earning new release with a rather disappointing $19.2 million. Lions for Lambs continued the trend of politically-minded films under-performing at the box office. At $6.71 million dollars, it is Tom Cruise's lowest-grossing wide-opener in over twenty years. Martin Scorsese's The Color of Money made $6.3 million in 1986 and Magnolia was only a limited release. It is also the lowest-grossing wide release for Robert Redford as a director.

5. Dan in Real Life: $5.87m
6. Saw IV: $5.01m
7. The Game Plan: $2.41m
8. P2: $2.2m
9. 30 Days of Night: $2.1m
10. Martian Child: $1.75m
