Hollywood uberreporter Nikki Finke is reporting that "Hancock" has already made $7 million off its extremely limited Tuesday night showings (two shows at each of the 3,680 theaters showing it). This is huge. How huge? In comparison, "Wall-E" made $7.7 million from the entire day of screenings and "Iron Man," took in $5 million from the few Tuesday night shows before its Wednesday premier).
For a film with almost universally bad reviews, "Hancock" sure as hell seems poised to rake in some serious cash (Nikki says distributor Sony is projecting $100 to $115 million).
We've seen Will Smith continually pull in huge box office receipts. So what's the real story here? Well, that the "story" that "Hancock" is getting bad reviews is, well, a non story. Doesn't matter. It's Will freakin' Smith.
