News > 'Crank' Directors Confirm a Sequel

The Movie Blog posted some startling, confusing, and slightly awesome news when they announced that Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine (writer/directors of Crank) confirmed that there will be a true, honest-to-God sequel to their Jason Statham action extravaganza.

Say the directors:

"There will be a sequel to Crank yes. Prepare to Crank again. And you know the "is it a sequel or prequel" question… IT'S A SEQUEL. We're not selling out and going prequel. We are picking up where the last movie left off."

Though I can't imagine a grown man using the phrase "prepare to Crank again," this is good news. The first Crank was a hilariously over-the-top flick that can basically be summarized as Grand Theft Auto 3: The Movie

There is sort of a problem, though – and if you haven't seen the original Crank yet, or don't want the ending spoiled, don't read beneath this line.

Jason Statham sort of dies at the end of the first one, so how could they possibly continue the story? Unless the IMDB forumites are correct, and the entire film really is a video game, and the Statham character has only lost his first life. Still: no matter how they bring Chev Chelios (worst name ever) back, it'll be nice to see a sequel to one of the most weirdly entertaining action movies of the last year.
